On the Dock, Captain's Cove Marina

323 / 365
When traveling the Connecticut coastline or crossing Long Island Sound from New York, Captain's Cove is sometimes the destination. Kind of a tourist attraction of sorts. On the dock are all these crates, and bouys hanging from a piling. They were colorful enough to make this image a candidate for pixel bending. Sorta painterly, don't you think? Do you like painterly?

I'd say painterly for sure

I'm thinking you are the master of the technique. I'm surprised I don't see more people trying it. Love the composition and color.

Nice processing

Nice effect, attractive image. Painterly yes. Philosophical question: is it photography? From your profile one might conclude that you are adverse to this type of manipulation.

Is it photography? I have to say 'yes' as initially, the image was captured in a camera. If you were there you would probably say it was a 'cliche' kind of shot. That's the way I felt. Therefore, I played in Pixel Bender to make it more my own. I play with it til I am happy. What I do not particularly carefore is using HDR because to me it seems to go in another direction and the reality of the image (in most cases) becomes altered beyond belief, halos, exagerated color, etc. Maybe I am just a frustrated impressionista who can't use a brush, but can manipulate the sliders in PB somewhat! @ososki

Its a very effective form of processing... certainly takes the 'photograph' look away and makes it look like a 'picture'

So cool this site. I started out as a multimedia artist, b&w photographer & now the digital age of which I'm struggling with. Photography is art & art is whatever makes you happy and also hopefully to evoke emotions from the viewer. Love this image. Btw, I hear you on Photoshop. :)

@d4photo13 Did you mean "own" photoshop? Yes! When they reduced CS5 because CS6 was coming, I bought in at the discount. Way beyond my needs, but I did get Pixel Bender and having lots of fun!

Thankyou so much for replying. That's just the advice I needed. I actually did mean "on" because layers etc. drives me crazy. I could paint a picture faster than editing it. I was thinking of ordering CS5 because of the discount, however I was
unaware of that feature. ( I have an older version, I rarely use) Mostly use Lightroom. Now I'm excited to go ahead and order!! :-)

@d4photo13 ...I haven't gotten to layers yet myself. Lr3 has made all the difference, however! I'll plod through CS5 and figure out what I have to as the need arises. Have fun, spend money!
