When you are using a F stop like F5.6 and lower you need to ensure that you focus on the eyes. If the eye are not in focus the rest of the image looks a little off. I think you missed the focus on this one but a great first effort.
@agima I am curious, if I am using a zoom lens does it still work to focus on the eyes? Aslo what if you are doing flowers where does the focal point go...I have a devil of a time get focus right due to old eyes, but I am practicing THANK YOU for the input, I am trying to improve!
The same applies when using a Zoom. Now having said that sometimes at the longer end of the zoom it i not practical to focus on the eyes. for example I take a lot of riders on horses as distances. Due to the fact these guys are on the move I dont have to to focus on their eye and then recompose the image. What I do is focus on their chest as their chest is almost in the same focal plane as their face and due t their distance from the camera the effects of the DOF is less than if they were only a few feet away.
Important lesson there. Let me say it in another way. - The closer the subject is to the lens the greater the affect of the bluring of the image.
@agima Thanks for the lesson. I see from Colleen's image exactly what you mean. I'm going to try this and will watch for your answer to Colleen's question regarding flowers. Thanks again :)
This is a wonderful Capture and it is on the P.P. !! Good for you !! I love the color and composition...Im sure that Brendan is correct ..he has taught me so much and what he means by the closer the subject is to the lens for example ..say there is a branch closer then your flower the lens will focus on the closest item..even in a portait..if the shoulder is out in front of the face it will focus better on the shoulder then it will the eyes or face....I hope i said that right...and you are able to understan it!!
Also the tag should be csc-1
