This is the first time I've played with water drops since before Xmas. At the tail-end of last year, water droplet shots became something of an obsession trying to get the elusive 'collision shot'.
I wondered if having the 7D would make it any easier.
That would be a no.
Not hugely sharp, but not too bad for a first session 'back on the horse'.
Better on black.
@beeblebear It's easier with a flash. I do it in dark room so it's the flash that freezes the droplet, not the shutter speed. Gavin Hoey has a great beginners tutorial on water splashes on YouTube.
Fantastic Hunphrey! I love it! @beeblebear I did same as HH - dark room (the garage) and used flash to freeze. I set the drops going then got my OH to hold a broken matchstick to the height they were bouncing to and manually focussed on that. Good luck, hope it goes well.
Fabulous! Colours are great! I have not managed to produce anything like this yet - not for the lack of trying eithet - but I've been doing it in daylight - will definitely have to give in the dark a go instead! Thanks for the tip :)
@spidersilk@beetle365 The two flashes are bouncing off a square of blue foil wrapping paper with a geometric pattern. One flash has a purple gel over it to add a bit of extra colour.
I am smiling.. I have avoided taking water shots since one of mine got faved that many times, I become scared to get another that would nto be good enough. I love the blue tones in this, they are gorgeous and your focus is brilliant. Your speed and lighting are spot on. Well done.
Isn't it fun? I got water obsessed when I joined the project last year. Then I upgraded to the 7D and I have to resist turning on the tap every weekend! :)
@humphreyhippo that tutorial is so good, thanks for passing it on! Will be a long time before I try though..........equipment so far, p&s camera and a torch!! ha ha
This really is stunning. I love the colour and the clarity. You have such patience in setting up your shots. I have every intention of trying one of these over the next while.
This is amazing! I've never tried water drop shots but it's on my photography bucket list! I love the colours and the reflection in the droplet. Well done :)

Lucky you, having a 7D!
She's got some awesome shots with a p&s.
