We tried something different with the drip rig today - going for a high key white background. It was a useful session, and we learned a lot, but weren't hugely thrilled with the final results. It seems I much prefer these sort of shots against a black background. They also didn't seem as sharp to me.
@shutterbugger This is done with a laser trigger so you basically keep tweaking the delay until you've dialled it in. It's different every day depending on the fluid and the drop height etc.

My other half built it for me. :)
@shutterbugger I was looking at my shots from last year when I first tried to get a crown with a dripping tap and on-camera flash. It's all got a lot more complicated since then. ;)
I've done collision shots without electronic aids, but it's *extremely* difficult -- I only got three in well over 2,000 shots.
Really like the colours in this, even if they have been enhanced. I'm not sure the white background works either, at least when you've got fairly opaque water -- I think it can work when the water is transparent through the column (either clear or coloured).
Lovely effect. Had to smile as it made me think of a mouth with a very long tongue zapping out to lap up something. :) Sometimes my imagination runs away!
Always feel a bit intimidated by such clever shots... My skills and technological know how have a loooong way to go! This is very clever, has instant wow factor, especially when you describe what you had to do to get it!
LOVE!!! Prefer this version and I beg to differ... I LOVE the white background.... a while back you showed a shot of your setup... hubby reckons he could do one... so one day, I'll set him to work... mind you, I think I'll end up as frustrated as all hell!
INCREDIBLE! Amazing capture!!! Not only is it a beautifully focused and timed water drop, it also has stunning colours and has the shape/form of a slender ballerina!

Dan Borg documented his design on his:

which was really helpful. @haytor's arduino code is much more involved & modular too.
