Mr. Caning Arpilleda, along with a certain Mr. Navarro and another companion, were the ones who commissioned the image made of mulawin wood in Paete, Laguna at a cost of Php 300.00 in the late 1940's. It was borne out of a devotion to the town patron and was originally enshrined in the Sts. Peter and Paul until then - Parish Priest Fr. Teodoro bequeathed the image and one of the church altars to Samahang Poultry in the 1960's.
During the same time, Fr. Teodoro did not allow the image of St. Peter to join the Good Friday procession because Peter "abandoned" Jesus during His passion and death. However, Mr. Velasco, a member of Samahang Poultry, wrote directly to Pope John XXIII to allow the reinstatement of Peter in the procession. Surprisingly, the Pope sent a reply saying that although Peter, in his time of weakness, left the side of the Lord during those trying times, he was, in heart and in spirit, lamenting for him.
To this day, the image is enshrined in the ornate retablo, originally of the Sts. Peter and Paul Church, which is the focal point of Samahang Poultry's chapel.
