Veronica died 1st Century; according to Church tradition, she was moved with pity when she saw Jesus carrying his cross and gave him her veil that he might wipe his forehead. Jesus wiped his face and left a miraculous imprint of his face on the veil; her name itself is taken from the word Vera and Icon which means "true image"; represented by a cloth with three faces of Jesus, white robe and blue cape; in Pateros, the image of Saint Veronica is traditionally veiled with strands of Sampaguita (Jasminium sambac; Feast Day, July 12.
