089 - While walking back from the city centre, I took a debtour through Homestead Park, and found that the lupins are now coming nicely into bloom.
I didn't know until recently that there was a York area connection with their development. George Russell was born in Stillington, near York in 1857. He was a keen gardener who dedicated his life to improving the garden lupin and making sure that it was strong, healthy, truly perennial and included all the colours of the rainbow. The result was a very special strain of lupin that came to be known as the ‘Russell Lupin’. George Russell’s lupins became world famous.
The display in the Homestead Gardens is dedicated to him.
I love lupins! We just have the purple ones wild in the hills here. This is a great shot. They look so fresh and clean. Ian, all these photos and you are still just a grey face with black eyes??LOL
Thank you - there were lots of different colours in the park, but I loved the gentle colours of these. As for the profile picture, would you believe that I really don't like having my photo taken! lol
Many people don't like their picture taken I think! Use one of your favorite photos instead, or something that 'represents' you :-) (I'm sure Marie doesn't really look like Gromit!)
Thank you Louise. There is quite a varied collection in the Homestead Park, in a wide range of colours, but I preferred these relatively gentle colours
Thank you.and thank you for the fav! I walked past the gardens where these are a couple of days ago, and there are now a large range of different colours of lupin. If the rain ever stops, and if they haven't been battered to pieces, I'm intending to get a few more shots of them.
Thank you her, and thank you for the fav! This is just a sample of the many colours in the Homestead Park. I'm hoping to get back for some more shots, hopefully when it sunshines
Thank you Marie.

Thank you, glad you like it!
Thank you - it was once a common garden flower here, but seems less popular now. They are lovely in a mass display.
Thank you, glad you found it interesting
Thank you Lisa, lupins make a lovely display don't they?
Thank you Howard, glad you like it!
You're also a bit sneaky when it comes to taking pictures of people caught unawares!
Thank you Deb, glad you like it!
Thank you Ami, glad you like it!
Thank you Sarah. There were a whole variety of colours in the park, but I liked the look of these relatively gentle colours.

Thank you Roslyn. Lupins aren't one of my favourite flowers, but I do like the effect of a group of them like this.
Lupines don't grow here, I really wish they did!

OK, you've convinced me, but it's taken a while to get just the right profile photo!
@lucycakes
Thank you for the ideal profile photo!
