Interior of St Michael le Belfrey Church by if1

Interior of St Michael le Belfrey Church

218 - I included a shot of the exterior of this church way back in July ( http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-07-18), but I went in today to do a little more experimenting with hdr, and this shot is one of the results.

While best known as the place where Guy Fawkes was baptised (He later went on to try and blow up parliament), it also played a significant role in the life of the Anglican church in the 1970s.

A few years earlier, a nearby small church with a congregation of about six had begun to grow with the arrival of a new curate - David Watson. Within a few years the congregation was far larger than the building could hold, so that church was joined with St Michael le Belfrey Church, and most services were held here. Growth continued through the 1970s, and the church became a significant centre for charismatic renewal. It continues to be a thriving and active congregation today.

Lovely to see this Church on 365!
A Curate at St Michael's is Alistair Ryecroft who was our Youth Worker a few years ago.
Have you met him and Lucy and their children. Best wishes to them from David & Barbara.

The HDR has worked very well indeed - I must try that for my church interiors where the light is so contrasty. Thank you for including the info on the church's recent history - David Watson was very influential in so many ways.

@andrewrome365

Thank you David - although I know a few members of the congregation, I don't know any of the current clergy.

@janturnbull

Thank you Janet - the hdr is really helpful for high contrast interiors, but I think I need to do a bit more work on the colour. And I agree, David Watson had a huge impact on the student population when I was at college!

@bobhuegel

Thank you Bob - the hdr does help moderate the light and shade here and makes the whole interior clear.
