327 - One of the highlights of York's annual calendar is the Residents Festival which happens each year over the last weekend in January. It's a thank you from York's tourist trade for the contribution that residents make in welcoming visitors to the city.
Many attractions give residents free or reduced admission, and there are places open that are not usually open to the public, so not surprisingly it's a very popular and busy weekend in the city centre.
I went to several attractions, so I will be sharing shots from this weekend for a few days.
My second place to visit was York Minster, which is the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps. Built of magnesian limestone, it has a beautiful, light and airy interior. Construction of the current building started in 1220AD, although earlier churches existed on the same site from 627AD.
This shot shows the nave, looking east towards the choir screen and organ. Can anyone spot the dragon?
Thank you for your kind comments. I spent quite a bit of time here on both Saturday and Sunday, and I could easily complete my 365 year just with shots taken in the Minster!
Lovely photo - the lighting is superb.
We do have `` Monumenten day`` Nearly all great historical buildings are open and to watch for free
Thank you all for your kind comments, and particularly those of you who were kind enough to fav this shot.
For those curious about the dragon, its above the left hand arch and is a long projecting beam carved and painted as a dragon.
And David, not only is there a Klingon in the Minster, but there is also a Ferengi too!
Thank you for your kind comments. I spent quite a bit of time here on both Saturday and Sunday, and I could easily complete my 365 year just with shots taken in the Minster!
Thank you Kristin - this is a stunning building!
