My eldest daughter is crazy about music. She goes to an IB school where they do not have a band, but she is allowed to go to the regular high school for the band program there. Her biggest problem is that because she is in the other school she cannot practice as often as she likes (she plays percussion and obviously we do not have these instruments at home). However, she needs to do a "Personal Project" and now got the idea to build her own 4.3 octave marimba. She found a plan on the internet, bought a book and she measured a marimba at school. So the next step is buying wood. This has to be hardwood which is not cheap, so after we visited a warehouse she made a scale marimba from paper and puzzled how many feet she need (top of the photo). Hopefully next Saturday we have time to go to another warehouse and as soon as the summer holiday starts, she can start!
Wow! That is an very impressive Personal Project. She will learn so many skills on the way. I'm really looking forward to watching this develop and I wish her the best of luck.
Yes, a huge project... I was thinking about making a children's xylophone when I suggested to make an instrument, but Nadya doesn't do anything half. Thank you for commenting @woofandweft1 and @stephanies and I hope to post a picture of her project every now and then...
