For more than a day the caterpillars stayed up at their cage. In the morning they were still there. Only when I walked the dogs one had transferred into a pupa.
The other was wiggling. I set up my tripod and hoped to be lucky to see it, but I had to go to work too. So after a very fast shower the caterpillar was still wiggling, but then it started! The wiggling took more than 20 minutes, but the actual transformation took only 5 min.
I have pictures of the whole process. Unfortunately, something went wrong... The caterpillar shreds its skin too in this process and this one left the skin hanging and the pupa fell. However, it finished making the chrysalis and in the evening my 11 year old was able to hung it up.
We are hoping that a butterfly comes out that is not handicapped. But we know that if we had not taken them in they would not have made it.
