My daughter had basketball practice, so I set off to the nature sanctuary to take some pictures of the birds. At least that was the plan. But there was a party and therefore the birds did not come to the feeders. However, I spotted a turtle in the pond and there were some naughty squirrels eating bird food.
Then a mom and a son spotted this snake. We did not know what kind of snake it was. After some internet research I think it is a Southern Watersnake, but I might be wrong.

He was not very big and therefor not scary. What I have learned over the years (my kids loved the snake demonstrations at science nights and nature reserves) is that if they are not very big and you were close shoes and jeans, you are not very likely to get bitten, simply because they cannot open their mouth that wide! So whenever I take my dogs out and walk though the grass, I always wear my "big boots".
Like Gayle, I do appreciate them now for photos, but hope not to come across a big one ;)
