I had the most incredible day. A man I have known for years has had me on his list of people to take to an abandoned island called Swona. Yesterday I got a text from the other guy who has the boat to say they were hoping to go out - would I be interested??? I was more excited than at Christmas, I even have had the day off arranged for 2 years as I knew it would be last minute, drop everything . Totally weather dependent and it was gorgeous, like a mild, sunny summer day. He has a fast boat but it still takes 25 minutes to get there. I've copied a couple of links for anyone interested in the history. I feel incredibly priveleged to have had the chance - expect to see images from there for the next few months
Wow. Lucky and thank you for the links. Really interesting. I look forward to your pictures. This image is great. I like the tones. It reminds me of an old Dutch painting.
What a wonderful adventure - I felt the same about my excursion to Copinsay last summer - such a privilege to be able to visit these places would love to go to Swona some day as well. Look forward to the pictures. This one is fabulous!
@sheilag - I am lucky Sheila , I took around 250 with my iphone and about 3 or 4 full films, I had 4 different cameras but just ended up using 2 and the iphone, get over if you can, just amazing. Stroma is on my list next - will go over to Caithness for that one though !
What an amazing place to visit -- I read the Wikipedia article and was fascinated. I love the pictures you've posted and wish I could go to the island, too -- only I'd probably be scared of the feral cattle. Fav
