We saw an abundance of wildlife again today on a lovely walk in the south of Orkney. This curlew was trying to distract us by making as much noise as it could. I liked where it was standing, it was much better than being camouflaged in a field!
We were on South Ronaldsay, an island now connected to the main island by a series of causeways that were built by Italian prisoners of war during WWII to block access to Scapa Flow. There are lots of abandoned military buildings along the coastline which are quite spooky to see but interesting too.
On the way back we passed by the burial place of the Earl of Orkney in the 10th century who was known as Thorfinn Skull-splitter. Don't think I would have wanted to bump into him on a dark night.
Not much time for commenting at the moment, it's light so late and there's so much going on outside, it's impossible to sit at the computer for long!
