I set out to post something different for each day of 30 days wild but I just couldn't resist another puffin today.
We had a wonderful day in Unst, which is the most northern island of Shetland and of the British Isles. It's quite a long trip with two ferry crossings from the main island but what a magical day! Thousands of pairs of puffins come here to nest so they're actually quite hard to avoid, puffins pop their heads out of the burrows right where you're sitting! We just watched them go back and forth with feathers, grass and moss to tidy the nest, some were bringing fish back to feed the young.
There's also 12,000 gannets nesting along the cliffs and rocks so the sights, sounds and smells are quite incredible.
We walked along the coast until we saw Muckle Flugga lighthouse, which is on a rock off the coast of Unst. But even that isn't the most northern point of Britain, there's a little rock out in the sea called Out Stack and that's where Britain officially ends. One day we might go back and touch it but for now looking at it from dry land is enough!
How wonderful to sit among these adorable birds :) I've fallen in love with the puffins from other shots I've seen here on 365. So when i saw this on the PP I just have to fav it and follow you! Adorable!
Great capture. I can't stop admiring photos of those birds. They are so unique...And with their name I feel like they are cartoon characters. This one looks sad... fav
