Dodging the torrential rain today I got as far as the garden in between showers (at least it doesn't need watering). I found lots of these small colourful flies on the plants so did some research to find that they're hoverflies. They like to eat the aphids so the lesson I've learnt today is that rain + hoverflies = good for the garden.
