Where Ziggy landed

This back street in London was the location for the photo taken for the cover of David Bowie's album Ziggy Stardust.

It doesn't look anything like it did in 1972 now, the doorway behind the greenery is the actual spot, marked now by a plaque.

It was where the studio of the photographer was located, he decided to take Bowie outside for a couple of shots, the rest of the band stayed inside because it was too cold.

The photos were taken in b&w and the colour was hand painted. Quite a different process to using a digital camera and messing about with the results in Lightroom like this. Couldn't do much about the grain though, it was dark and handheld, so this was a good as it gets.

Here's a link to the album cover and story (thanks for the suggestion @alophoto)

You took it at such a perfect time...the blue hour. You should link the other photos.

The narrow street is nicely lit with all those overhead lights! Don't know the album but I can always google it!
