We arrived in Whitby about half an hour before the abbey closed so it was a bit of a quick dash to get there to see the ruins up close. The place was almost deserted, so I was lucky when this couple wandered into my shot.
There's a bit of theme developed to our week, unintentionally, but we seem to have been on the trail of the monks. They settled here in 650 AD and it became an important religious centre. The remains of the abbey on the headland are 13th century.
I knew what this was before I saw your title. I used to go to Whitby every year for a holiday when I was little. This is a lovely image and works so well in black and white. The addition of the people shows the huge scale of the place. Fav
I came to look more closely because I recognised Whitby from the thumbnail. Love this abbey. Fabulous shot of it, really like the way you brought out the texture of the stone and the two people on the right give it lovely perspective.
