We decided to make the most of being in Orkney on the longest day by going to the Ring of Brodgar stone circle for the summer solstice ceremony this morning at dawn (which was 3am!)
It was mind boggling to think that ceremonies have taken place on this site for around 4000 years.
We went out of curiosity but it was a really interesting experience. There's one stone set apart from the main circle where the pagan ceremony took place, all the participants stood in a circle but observers like us were welcome as well.
We walked up to the main stone circle to see the sun rise, which happened just before 4am. It was wonderful to see :)
