Gannets recycle plastic

We've all heard about how much plastic is found in our oceans, it looks like the gannets in this colony nesting on the cliffs in Shetland are using some of it to build their nests. Whilst I'm glad they're making use of whatever they find, I'm dismayed that there's so much plastic in the sea :(

Great shot, it's a sad state of affairs with so much discarded plastic everywhere. I can see us revrrting back to glass bottles, linen nappies, etc.
