The Goliath (De Goliath) mill, Groningen, The Netherlands

This was a polder mill, used for draining the land (no longer in use). The wind turbines are in the same group as yesterday's photo.

The Goliath, the northenmost mill on mainland Holland, is owned by a trust, and we met a teacher who is a qualified miller there (nice information centre). He trains others who wish to carry on the craft of milling. We met two of them and had a wonderful time climbing up inside the mill. I made it to the top, despite my fear of heights!

I know this windmill. I`ve worked in the Eemshaven and drove many roads there many times. I was well knowed there as I be now here. Great shot of this nice windmill. Sorry the trip is over. Did the weather co-operate?

@pyrrhula That's so nice to know, Ferry. Really interesting. The weather was very good - clear blue sky and good other days too. Now it has been very stormy - but we are back in the south of England! Best wishes.

@ivan Same weather here the last few day`s. I`ve to pay it a visit soon as Ina`s sisters live there and it has been a long time we`ve seen them. But the trip driving is what cares me. +/_ 4 hours. Best wishes to you and Tina in return.

We had a similar experience, Ivan, visiting the Water Mill in Lyme regis. Well worth a visit. We were given an excelent tour and talk about the renovation, etc.

They are great places to explore. Glad you made it to the top Ivan. Your shot portrays the power and scale of those sails.

Wonderful capture. The mill is so very beautiful as is its surroundings. Is it rotated by hand as that guy seems to be doing?

@sangwann Thank you, Dione. I think he is pulling the sheets on the sails, furling them. The mill is rotated by a wheel and handle I think, you can just see it by the man you mention.
