Polling station in a rural parish by ivan

Polling station in a rural parish

As you probably know ;) UK has been voting for the European Parliament today. We'd had coffee and cake in a garden centre and I wanted to get a photo of a polling station.

This is a very rural part of our district with a population of only 1,147, so the electorate is even fewer. It was late afternoon and a slow trickle of people voting, about 10 in the 15 minutes we were there. It is a fact that apart from general elections, turnout is often very low.

Prior to the day, many were saying they would not vote because they wanted to be out of the EU. It will be interesting therefore to see how many actually voted in these Brexit influenced and controversial elections. [We'd already voted by post for a Remain in EU party].

The Netherlands have been voting today too.

Nicely composed. We do postal votes too - if there was a coffee shop near to our polling ststaion we might walk the 2 miles to vote in person!

He is looking at that notice almost as if to say 'what's going on here?'
Nice documenting of the day. My polling station was very quiet this morning when I voted.

It seems pointless to vote has been England ....

Interesting to hear about your community... But if we were obliged to vote, as in Australia, we would be encouraged to be better informed and play a more conscious part in our democracy. Apathy literally says nothing!
