244. Angel of the North

The iconic statue at Gateshead. I had to sit in the car for 10 minutes to wait for the rain to stop, but was rewarded with some great dramatic clouds when it did!
That sky really adds to the shot. You get a great sense of the sheer size of the thing when you see the silhouettes of real people around the base (and I think one is taking a photo, funnily enough!)

Awesome clouds!
Was it as big as you were expecting? I thought it was impressive but oddly smaller that I'd imagined it to be.

The sculpture on its own is dramatic but the sky really adds to the scene.

The skies are fantastic. From the size of the humans this version of the statue looks much grander than the one that was in canberra a few years back.

How dramatic!

Dramatic sky! The angel looks almost as if it's welcoming the rain. The people give a good idea of the size of the work.
