today would have been my dad's 94th birthday. looking for a photo of him I had never posted on facebook before I came across this one in some photos my mom gave me to scan in. his original handwriting is on the bottom...you can see where I get my talent for clever titling ; ) I cleaned it up a bit and tried to bring out some detail. I miss him.
What a great photo! My husband walked in and told me that tent was called a shelter half. You had to share it with a buddy. Hard to imagine what that service was like.
@kvoloshin this was World War II. Probably another soldier. It is a great photo of my dad...he was a handsome, strong man. He got a purple heart as he was shot (not terribly deep wound) and he watched men die all around him. They were brave.
These tents were still in use in the Netherlands army when I was serving in 1989-1990. It consisted of two halves to be buttoned at the top. One half was, together with a sleeping bag rolled up and carried on the belly, balanced with a pack (not a proper backpack) on the back.
