my hero

today would have been my dad's 94th birthday. looking for a photo of him I had never posted on facebook before I came across this one in some photos my mom gave me to scan in. his original handwriting is on the bottom...you can see where I get my talent for clever titling ; ) I cleaned it up a bit and tried to bring out some detail. I miss him.
What an amazing and touching photo! Thanks for sharing.

What a great photo! My husband walked in and told me that tent was called a shelter half. You had to share it with a buddy. Hard to imagine what that service was like.

Do you know who was the photographer? Very good portrait.

@kvoloshin this was World War II. Probably another soldier. It is a great photo of my dad...he was a handsome, strong man. He got a purple heart as he was shot (not terribly deep wound) and he watched men die all around him. They were brave.

@cheekylulu @dmcoile @annied @lindasees @bonsai @rieva @vstap @lisamccloskey @nicoleterheide @henrir @kimdavis thanks everyone. my dad was a very good looking man! seems like a uniform makes a man even more handsome. I try to imagine what he went through during the war. Dianna's husband said two men slept in this...then throw in some rain snow heat...God bless all those who go to serve " )

Amazing! I like this, having come across an album of my father serving in former Netherlands Indies, now Indonesia.

These tents were still in use in the Netherlands army when I was serving in 1989-1990. It consisted of two halves to be buttoned at the top. One half was, together with a sleeping bag rolled up and carried on the belly, balanced with a pack (not a proper backpack) on the back.

@hjv thanks for the information. It amazes me what the conditions are for the troops. God bless everyone of them!
