maybe it's pet nose day???

sitting my daughter's dog Harrison...you have seen him before...the rather easy going 95 pound loveable bull terrier/hound from the streets that she rescued to foster and fell in love with and kept. Harrison has cushing's disease, after being wrongly medicated he is now going to a different vet to treat a number of related issues. this past weekend he developed a large swelling on his neck which required a drain : ( without being too graphic) since she has 4 others at home she asked if we could keep him so no damage would be done to the affected area. poor guy is on so many lotions and potions and medications that a large part of his day is spent laying on blankets. so I got up close...normally he wouldn't like his photo being taken but he is pretty out of it so he allowed a macro of his nose...not wet and shiny like it should be...we are very sad for him right now and hopefully we can get him better. if these things didn't keep popping up maybe we could get to the real problem. he isn't even taking the medication for the disease yet...soon we hope!
Poor Harrison! I went through that diagnostic nightmare with our Heeler puppy several years ago. They finally sent him home to die, so I asked if we could give him dex to relieve his suffering. Miracle! He was completely normal until it wore off. After nearly six months of vets and vet hospitals his reaction led to a diagnosis ... Addison's. I had him for nearly five years until he had a crisis and died in the night. Pets can be such a comfort ... and such a heartbreak. Good luck!

@aecasey I'm so sorry you went through that, we had an adoptee with addison's too! it was heartbreaking to watch even though we knew what it was. I am hoping Harrison can be healed...right now his poor body looks horrible inside and out : ( Thanks for your kind words.

Our previous dog was a Newfoundland with epilepsy. A great dog but so hard to watch when the health problems progress and the meds start to fail. A very cute dog nose photo & best wishes to Harrison.
