meet D.A, and Clifton. numbers 41 and 42 in my strangers project. while trying not to break the law but still get a photo we wanted, my girlfriend and I started asking some questions and one thing led to another and well... meet D.A. an off duty policeman doing security work for some extra money. loves his job. divorced from Maryann (only know her name because that's my friend's name and it came up in introductions.) as we have an international border D.A. was explaining the heightened alert now with the current tensions. 2 kids and grandchildren. proud dad and grandpa. very talkative. introduced us to Clifton. a graphic artist turned security guard of sorts of the very thing we wanted photos of. he let us slip by as we posed no threat to the property. unfortunately he took off the tip of his finger trying to do his trailer hitch or something like that and ended up with a rather ridiculous bandaged arm. seemed like a lot for one finger. he got the security job as an offshoot of the graphic art work he was doing for the company. he parked a camper on the property to stay there while he worked and they offered him the security job also. we talked about the history of the project and knew a lot of it considering he was so young. his arm was throbbing and the hospital had only given him one painkiller. I gave him the bottle of ibuprofen I had in my purse and removed the bandages left from the iv on his arm. we had some powerful storms moving in and had to leave but we were better for having met both of them.
Wow, what an awesome story. I’ve done something similar in the past…getting to know a complete stranger and a little bit of their story through photography.
Chatting with strangers is good for the soul, this photo proves it. I'm glad Clifton only damaged his finger, if it had been an arm injury he would have been bandaged like a mummy!
