Pollard Willow

We have lots of them in the Netherlands. Every few years all the branches are cut away and the tree starts over again.
It is a lovely tree. Interesting about the severe pruning.

so many branches there!

It's interesting. In the UK I feel in urban centres we've lost that knowledge of tree management amongst the local authority people who are supposed to know. Anyway, a nice shot.

I guess for basket making? We have pollarded hornbeams and hazel locally - makes for interesting looking trees

@shannejw Yes they are used for baskets and garden screens. Thanks for your comment.

@peadar Here we have mostly volonteers that do the pruning, It’s otherwise to expensive, shame really a lot of knowledge is lost.

Moet iedere drie, vier jaar. Anders worden de takken te zwaar en breken ze af.

@pyrrhula Ik vind ze altijd prachtig met en zonder takken!
