The Glass Pyramid at the Louvre always fascinates me. I remember so well when they decided to build it - I did not like the idea of such a modern structure being in the Courtyard of the Louvre. However, not only have I changed my mind, I have come to really appreciate it.
There are usually lots of people around, but when I passed through yesterday evening about 6pm, the courtyard was strangely quiet. It felt quite eerie.
For information, the pyramid was completed in 1989 and was designed by Chinese American architect I.M. Pei.
Unusual to see it this quiet for sure: the guy with the backpack taking a photo looks as though he might actually be scratching his head which, given your title, is perfect.
I know just what you mean, it felt almost obscene when I heard about them planning to build this and now it seems quite iconic and in tune with the mix of historic and modern architecture you find in Paris. As you say though, eerily quiet in this photo!
Ha! I was right there about three hours earlier and there were lots more people there. It wasn't crowded but it does look like something happened after that! Love the clouds.
Reminds me a bit of the addition to the Royal Ontario Museum here in Toronto. Its formal name is "The Crystal", but I call it "The Excrescence", and haven't changed my mind about it. Good capture of this pyramid.
@tristansmum Stephanie - please! Absolutely no worries. I thought nothing of it, and I didn't find your comment overly negative at all - just your opinion on that type of architecture. :-) So sweet of you to come back on it though.
