This was the group of walkers that I led on an 8km tour of the 20th and 11th arrondissements of Paris on Tuesday - our monthly 'ramble'. It was the most beautiful day, and we passed by the house where Edith Piaf was born in Belleville, as well as her grave in the Père Lachaise Cemetery. This is taken in the Belleville park which affords a wonderful view over the city - you can see the Beaubourg Centre, the Eiffel Tower and the Tour Montparnasse from here on a clear day (you can just make out the colours of the Beaubourg centre in the background). We had a lovely lunch afterwards and finished up by walking a further kilometre along to the Place de la Bastille to catch the metro back home. A fun bunch of ladies - and gent! Poor Stuart!
Sounds like a wonderful walk, and lovely capture of the walking group. Can't help but notice the jackets everyone has on, and felt prompted to ask you what kind of Jacket would be needed for mid to late April?? (which is when I am coming to Paris & then north to the Somme area)
@leggzy Oh, boy, that's a difficult question. North of Paris, it will be colder especially near the sea. Paris can do anything though, weatherise, in April. I'd go with layers, as I don't think you'll need a 'big' jacket! You could be sunbathing! Tuesday was bright but cold - although it is only March. The temperatures are ranging from 3-13 degrees here at the moment. As soon as the sun went away on Tuesday, it was freezing! For me, in April, I'd tend to have a t-shirt, a reasonable sweater and a lightweight, waterproof wind cheater - which you may or may not need. At a guess you'd need all of that in the Somme area though - maybe even a light scarf too. Does that help at all?! Oh, and should you think you might have time to meet up, for coffee even, do let me know. I'm sure your time will be tight and you'll have lots planned, so I won't be offended if it doesn't work. I'm also away a couple of long weekends in April, so might not even be available, but thought I'd throw it out there!
@jamibann thank you so much Issi - yes your info has helped heaps! At least it gives me an idea, and that makes sense that layers are the go.
Yes our time will be very tight, only having 2 days that are split up into 2 half days & 1 full in Paris before our tour to the western front starts....and we do have quite a bit planned, so we'll be on the go & doubt there would be time, but thank you for your very kind offer -it was lovely :)
