I took it into my head yesterday to walk up the military road from Braemar up to Fraser's Brig. Not so far, only about 6km each way, but I didn't reckon on the depth and difficulty of the snow on the path, and I wasn't really properly equipped. However, I made it there and took the main road (which you can see on the left of the image) back home. Lots of deer and grouse along the way. A lovely walk on a nice winter's day.
It looks beautiful albeit rather inhospitable. Kudos to you for doing the walk in the first place. Probably a wise choice using the main road to return home.
