L Cpl Duff at Harrogate 1955

I had to post this today! Dad and I were going through old photographs and we came across this one which I've never seen before. I was quite amazed because it could be my son - the likeness is quite incredible. I always knew Alexander took after my dad's side of the family, but this shot shows it so clearly. Dad was 22 in this photo - the same age as Alexander today.
Wow that is very cool ... It can be quite uncanny how family likeness can go through the generation...
You Dad looks pretty tough in his shirt sleeves in the snow...

I bet this photograph was from his National Service Days. 1955-57
It brings back memories for me.

it's not until we see photos at the same age that we realise how alike some family members are! You have 2 handsome men in your life:) Also I like the fact that you have a son Alexander, and my Isobel has a brother Alexander :)

How wonderful to find these vintage shots and to spend some special time with your dad too. :)

Could you get Alexander to pose like this, and put them together?

How fun is that. Looks like he was in the service. Please thank him for his service for me.

This is wonderful -- not only a cool vintage shot, but fun reading about the likeness to your son.

That sounds like a fun day you had going through pictures. This is a neat shot and to have it look like your son, too, - what does he think?

@casablanca @peterday @randystreat Yes, National Service back in 1955 - before I was even thought of! @tunia That would be a good idea! I must try and organise that. @milaniet You'd laugh at my son's comment when I mentioned the likeness - 'handsome chap!'. Says it all! ;-)

Oh, so very special! I'll bet you had goosebumps when you first looked at this photo of your father and saw your son looking back at you. Strangely enough, my son Alex looks very much like my father did when he was young. Ever since Alex was a young boy, the similarities have been startling. My father passed away in 1979 (Alex was born in 1986) so it has always been comforting to see so much of my dad in my son. I better stop now before the silly tears start flowing. :-)

@gaylewood Thanks for your lovely comments - it was a special moment when dad unearthed this photo. It is the strangest of feelings to see such a likeness. My brother's daughter has her mother's unusually shaped pinky fingers, and I've always found that quite amazing. The wonders of nature!

This is lovely and so good to go through photos and hear the stories. I was doing that at the weekend too!!

Wow Issi! The likeness is uncanny! Isn't it wonderful to see them so alike?! (I got curious and couldn't wait for morning!) (Good night!)

@Weezilou Ha ha ... so glad you had a peek before bedtime! I was quite taken aback when I saw this photo as I'd never seen it before. It was particularly poignant as dad was the same age then as Alexander is now.

@jamibann How beautiful to have such an opportunity to see this at the proper moment and while everyone is still with you! Happy Easter!
