I mentioned that after my day of photography, I was fortunate to witness the eagle being tagged and ringed. I watched a young man climb the tree and delicately capture the bird, place a hood on his head to keep him calm, and then lower said bird in a sports bag! Here you can see the RSPB man receiving the bird in the bag, prior to the tagging and ringing exercise. It was fascinating stuff ... there will be more to follow as I'm not getting out and about much with the camera in NI. There's a lot of work to be done for FiL - especially in the garden, so it's a bit busy at the moment.
What a great job these guys do, so important when these amazing birds are in short numbers. Quite nervy in case they peck, they will be scared & jumpy perhaps. Glad they managed to get junior back before mum returned!
Wow that is pretty cool to witness .. I have been photographer when my Son and Grandaughters have helped with banding ducks here.. but these big bird of prey would be a bit more of a mission.. http://365project.org/julzmaioro/365/2017-01-28
I'm totally impressed that a human could approach and "package-up" a wild bird of this size. Lucky fellows, getting to be up-close to such a magnificent creature.
@julzmaioro Oh, thank you for sharing that link. Interesting to see the ducks being banded as well. It would be such an fascinating job to have - ringing ducks or eagles, and why not both?!
@lyndemc I was very impressed too. The photography of the bird really was a wonderful experience, but to witness this at the end of the day was absolutely the icing on the cake.
