Yesterday's walk was great fun, but challenging on the navigational front. It’s disconcerting when the compass and map tell you something, but your head tells you another. We stuck with the recommendations of the map and compass and made it to each of the small summits we were aiming for. No danger as we were not in the high Cairngorms, but an interesting insight into winter navigation when visibility is poor or non-existant. I set the camera up on the handles of my walking poles for this selfie. Too cold to mess about for long, so a quickie it was!
Absolutely right - compass and map will be correct when the landscape suddenly changes in the weather conditions. Glad you made it where you were heading!
Nice picture of the two of you!
several times..once with a compass in a thick woods as night fell.
