Whilst walking in Braemar on Saturday, we came across a small pond (remains from when the river burst its banks), absolutely full to bursting with mating toads and frogs. We reckoned at least 100, several dead ones floating belly up, and a pile and a half of spawn. I learned through google that toadspawn is laid in strings, whilst frogspawn is laid in clumps. How did I get to my grand old age without knowing that?! We saw both in this little pond. It was quite a revolting sight, to be frank. This was the nicest of the photos I got. Some were just too graphic for posting.
Oh thank you for not posting the belly-up ones! This fellow seems quite pleased with himself since he's contributed to producing the next generation. Good shot!
Think I prefer frogs!
