Yesterday I was drawn outside by a beautiful bird song and found this house finch. I was surprised at the information the Internet had about them. They used to be so rare that people kept them in cages to hear them sing. In recent times, state after state has been reporting a dramatic rise in their numbers. The only concern about this is that they are often plagued by a visible eye disease. I was glad to see that this one seems quite healthy.
