I’m thankful for the gift of evergreens in the woods surrounding our home. Here on the hill, evergreens like this Eastern Hemlock wait quietly in the wings while oaks, beeches, maples, hickories, and the other leafy giants accept their final rounds of applause. The patient evergreens will eventually take center stage. They know all along they’ll get their turn in the spotlight; and when they do, they’ll take full advantage by showing off their defiance of Old Man Winter with their proud ever green. Our thankful eyes will be on their lush, beautiful branches bowing gracefully beneath the weight of heavy snow and hungry birds.
I’m dedicating November to giving thanks! For years, I’ve kept a gratitude journal in which I jot down things that I’m thankful for. During this month when we’ll celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, I’m going to take my gratitude for God’s good gifts one step further by photographing a particularly meaningful gift each day for my 365 project! I've always viewed the subjects of my images as gifts, but I'm looking forward to this month of intentionally labeling them as such. This will enable me to spend a bit more time dwelling on God's goodness and offering the thanks that He deserves. If anyone would like to join me in this celebration of grace, please do! I’ll be tagging my images: all-is-grace.
Instant Fav, not only for the beautifully shallow DOF and the perfect focus on a tiny green needle but for the lovely commentary. It does seem as though the evergreen are the most patient trees! Snow on any other tree in the forest is not the awe-inspiring sight that a laden pine bow is for me.
@lisamccloskey Thank you, Lisa! This particular Hemlock stands just outside the sunroom window where it delights us year-round but especially in Winter when its snow-laden, bird-covered branches light up the room!
@fayefaye Thank you kindly for stopping by and commenting, Faye! The Hemlocks, Spruces, Firs, and Pines delight us year-round but especially in Winter when they are the stars of the woodland show!
@eyesmile Thank you, Gena! After being stuck indoors for a month, today's walk was a walk I'll never forget! The light coming through the leaves made it extra special!
