The nuthatch hitching his way down the trunk of an old oak didn’t mind my presence until I took one step closer for a better look at my dearly beloved viburnum soaking in the Spring sunshine. I sunk a bit into spongy mulch while thinking of how I love viburnums and their reliable habit of thriving in the understory of Pennsylvania’s woodlands — our woodlands. Beneath our canopy of tall trees, viburnums keep on keeping on come what may; and I’m thankful for it. We planted several varieties of viburnums throughout our garden where their creamy, Springtime flower clusters attract myriads of pollinators and brighten our days.
