Tiny buds transform into delicate blossoms on the 30-some-foot tall Cleveland pear tree outside the sunroom window, and every Spring finds me admiring those blossoms like the first time I laid eyes on them. On this blustery day, I stood my ground with 500 millimeters aimed out the open window and hair blowing back as gusts of wind rushed inside where they don’t belong and branches outside swayed wildly. Determined to capture the sweet, wedding-white petals and raspberry anthers, I waited for calm; and just as I clicked the shutter, a bee arrived — imagine! Eyes wide open, I looked at the tree quite differently — where before I saw only the profusion of flowers, I now saw hundreds of tiny pollinators at work! How did I miss them all these years? With a thankful heart and new eyes, I'm heading back to the sunroom and my new friends!
