This very thing out on the road caught Mike's eye right in the middle of our conversation, and he jumped up lickety split to show me. I grabbed my camera and, thankfully, got out to the porch in time to catch this gobbler's flamboyant display of the 5,000 to 6,000 feathers he carries around day in and day out. His proud, capable strut didn't stop the hen from walking off into the roadside brush, however; and he followed after quickly returning all of those feathers to an orderly, tucked in position. This beloved hill teems with life and especially in spring when not a minute goes by without the sight of something moving out there — something worth watching, something worth sharing.
