Thanksgiving by janetb

Thanksgiving

We hadn't anticipated parking at Market Square and getting out in the drizzle. The lights lured us. Our tradition of visiting downtown Pittsburgh the evening of Thanksgiving continues. This 35-foot-tall Sphere Tree lit up the Square with dozens of large metal balls entwined with thousands of red and white lights. I got close and looked upward to frame this shot. Twisting the focus ring, I oohed and ahhed at the beautiful bokeh. Rain speckled my lens.

At home on the computer, I zoomed in to enjoy the tiny circles the raindrops created within the circles of light. Most viewers will never see them, but I know they're there; and this image will forever take me right back there to Market Square with the love of my life at my side sharing my love of the Christmas season while encouraging me to take my time as I composed and recomposed. "Have fun!
We're not in a hurry," he'd said lovingly — all the while he stood coatless and selfless in the rain.

“Great photography is about depth of feeling, not depth of field.”
— Peter Adams
