Thank you, Lord, for Pittsburgh at night — especially at the start of the Christmas season!
From high atop Mt. Washington, we enjoyed this spectacular view. A huge Christmas tree now stands in Point State Park, where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio River. It's Christmas time in the city!
Wow -- when you said you couldn't get a sharp shot, I looked at this with that in mind, but think you are setting the bar WAY to high for yourself!! This is fantastic! The only thing I did (and it looks like you already know to do this) is that I use live view and zoom in to find something like the clock or a sign, and then hand focus so that is in focus. Making sure it's on manual. If I feel I can't get it manually, I do the same, but use auto-focus on a point that I want to be sharp, and then once it auto-focuses well, I shift it to manual and leave it as is. I assume you use a tripod and an external shutter release or a 3 second delay to avoid camera shake? Really, I don't do anything special.
What a fabulous night shot - those lights are beautiful - love your focus - everything is so clear. Like the Christmas tree - quite a view from up there. Fav
@taffy Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and for your kind words. :) In this image, I focused on the Christmas tree; and I did use live view, a tripod, and the delay. I would like to try it again focusing on different areas within the frame to see if I could get some of the signs to be readable. It was starting to rain, so we didn't have much time. It was a fun experience. Christmas season in the city is always such a treat. Thanks again, Taffy!
