Lifelong learner — that's me! I love the challenge of taking a class and giving it my all. Yesterday's class was simply a photo walk with iPhone in hand for shooting and instructor on hand to suggest subjects and answer questions. He loved this scene because of the light and shadow — I didn't. This slushy street would never have caught my eye as an interesting subject; but of the morning's many shots, this one is surprisingly my favorite. By capturing the melting, sloppy mess of the narrow city street (so different than the tree-lined, farm-bordered roads near home), I learned to see beauty in what I didn't initially see as beautiful!
I think that is one of the biggest joys of photography for me. By looking at things through the eye of the camera lens, it is possible to find beauty and detail and wonder at the world around us and focus on all that is good, or can be made good, rather than noticing all that disturbs the harmony. It keeps me positive and enjoying creation.
Very interesting shot, Janet. I like the textures and details and that it tells a story of city life. I agree that there is beauty everywhere and in unusual things.
