Monet's Irises and Leaves by janetb

Monet's Irises and Leaves

Thank you, Lord, for today's visit to the Van Gogh, Monet, Degas exhibition at the Frick Art Museum.

The exhibition covers over 150 years of French art and includes 4 works by Claude Monet. I love the abstract quality of his Irises by a Pond, c. 1914-17 (of which this is just a small glimpse). As the placard described, "...the irises have been reduced to just a few splashes of purple and the leaves to green and yellow streaks..." I spent some time with this painting, gazing closely at the beautiful brushstrokes created by Monet over 100 years ago. Simply breathtaking!
Isn't it wonderful how so much can be conveyed by these brush strokes.
