Until We Meet Again

Thank you, Lord, for our sweet, precious, beloved Marley.

“I love you, my little prince.” “You are a gift!” “I’m so glad you’re here with me.” “You make me so happy!” “You are my sweet, sweet boy.” “You’re a good, good dog, Marley.” “You are the best!” “You found me! You found me!” “You should be so proud of yourself, Marley.” “Oh, Marley, you are so handsome.” “You are the perfect dog for me!” How many times have I spoken these phrases over the past eleven years? Hundreds? No, thousands. My beloved Marley joined Jesus in Heaven this morning, and my sadness overwhelms me. As I look at years of pictures through tear-filled eyes, I recall his gentle disposition and adorable actions. I think of how he loved to lay on my chest and listen to me tell him how special he was, swatting gently at my lips if I dared to stop talking. How he loved my voice. This morning I spoke softly to my boy as I cradled him in my arms — “Tonight, you will sleep with Jesus,” was the last he heard. Happy and healthy now, my boy is in good hands — the best hands. And I will see him again. Praise be to God.
