While Tartarian Honeysuckle's plump, juicy berries look tasty, do not eat them. This invasive species of bush honeysuckle grows here on the hill in numerous places, and this rather large bush thrives behind the mailbox in unobstructed sunlight. Others, growing outside of the fence bed along our woodland's edge, appear more straggly as they reach for light from beneath the tall trees.
Birds benefit more from eating fat-laden, energy producing berries from native plant species rather than the low-fat berries of invasive bush honeysuckles; so we really should eradicate these bushes to make space for the natives to grow. But aren't they pretty?
I praise you, Lord, for time to get to know Tartarian Honeysuckle a little better.
