Black-eyed Susans warm my heart. I adored a huge, healthy plant in the garden of our previous home; so I eagerly planted a Black-eyed Susan here on the hill. To my dismay, it struggled. For years. Then strangely in 2012, my Black-eyed Susan shot up vigorously, growing to 4’ tall and wide and producing dozens of beautiful flowers! That happened just a month after my dear friend Mickey joined Jesus in Heaven; and the surprising, vibrant, golden yellow flowers lifted my spirit and brought me joy. Shortly thereafter, Mickey’s daughter-in-law casually mentioned to me that Black-eyed Susans were Mickey’s favorite flower. I hadn’t known that, but I did know that I don’t believe in coincidences.
