Every Thanksgiving evening, we drive to beautiful downtown Pittsburgh to enjoy our city's holiday decorations. Years ago, we loved the magical window displays at Kaufmann's Department Store; and sometimes, we'd ice skate at the Pittsburgh Ice Rink at PPG Place. Kaufmann's is long gone, but the rink still exists; and this tree stands in the center now just as it did then. I learned this week that the rink is 67% larger than the rink at Rockefeller Center in New York; and when I shared that fun fact with Sarah, we both fondly recalled skating there, too. I love our tradition; and last night, I took time to play around with focus on the tree while we all enjoyed the skaters whirring past and Christmas carols playing loud on the rink's outdoor speakers. Another Pittsburgh icon, Fifth Avenue Place (often called the Highmark building), glowed its familiar blue high behind the rink; and thankfulness for this tradition extends far beyond Thanksgiving Day.
