Skipper1 by janiskay

Skipper1

Decided to take a break today from the music scene and get back to something I am a little better at. I though this original to blah so played with filters. Now I can’t decide which I like best. Can You?

A skipper or skipper butterfly is a butterfly of the family Hesperiidae. They are named after their quick, darting flight habits. More than 3500 species of skippers are recognized, and they occur worldwide, but with the greatest diversity in the Neotropical regions of Central and South America.

Many species of skippers look frustratingly alike. For example, some species in the genera Amblyscirtes, Erynnis (duskywings) and Hesperia (branded skippers) cannot currently be distinguished in the field even by experts. The only reliable method of telling them apart involves dissection and microscopic examination of the genitalia, which have characteristic structures that prevent mating except between co specifics.

I would like to thank you all for all the wonderful comments and Favs on yesterday's entry “Pure Enjoyment”. I do read and enjoy each and every comment and I will gladly answer any questions. I am open to all suggestions and/or constructive criticisms.

Amazing shot Janice. The detail is fantastic. We have these little guys here in Australia too. I had no idea what they were or what they were called before 365.

Amazing detail! How in the world do you even FIND the parts that need to be dissected let alone dissect them?! They must be incredibly small!

I think maybe this one, though they're both great. Love the focus on those amazing eyes. These skippers have such neat markings.

Great focus and detail. I prefer this one because of the colour - more green, less yellow.

I like this one better than the other. Love this. It looks like a moth, but it's a butterfly? Very cool.
