Poor Old Dilapidated Barn by janiskay

Poor Old Dilapidated Barn

My sister and I drove past this barn for the second time yesterday and again I squealed I must have a shot of the barn. Well she don't give in but said that on the way back if I chose to come this way she would stop, and we did.

It was a little hairy as cars were coming as I was getting out of the car. Then she drove off to fix a place to turn around. I was left on the side of the road with out much space between me and the road/ traffic. The light was all wrong so crossed the road to see if I could get a little better lighting.

Another car pulled off the road and into the drive way and we thought someone else had the same idea, but it turned out to be the owner. Anyway I got a couple of shots and as I am doing B&W this week I processed this for my theme.

Now by the scaffolding up against the barn it looks like they at one time or another planned to fix the roof. I wonder what happened to put a halt forever on these repairs. I also wonder what caused that big hole in the roof?
Isn't it amazing what we do to get a shot? This is a wonderful photo and the b/w just enhances it. My guess with the hole is a fire at one time.

What a fantastic shot. I love the processing in this shot too. The things we do to get a shot sometimes :)

Great barn shot in B/W

Love the b/w processing on this shot. I'd say the rafters are rotting away and that caused the hole in the roof. Great shot. Did you thank Joan for making the stop so you could get your photo....LOL.. What sisters will do for us....LOL

It's good to see the intentions of repair. So many times these get more dilapidated until they just collapse.

Glad your sister stopped for you! Thank you Janice so much for your kind and caring words for me on the loss of my dear friend Sam. it's a very difficult time, but caring words from "virtual" friends around the world here on 365 are so comforting and helping me to deal with my sadness. Thank you for caring and sharing. xx

Sounds like an adventure! And the result was worth the hassle. I like the dark processing.

@cejaanderson yes it did look that way the. The boards on the scaffolding are also rotting away. Look like it was just overwhelming and then they just abandoned it! At least the house is ok.

@gilbertwood glad to hear it help even a little. I was afraid it might be too much too soon. Keep your chin up it will get easier over time.

@taffy is it too dark?i think I have been leaning on the darker side lately! Tomorrow will be the last black and white for a while!
August 13th, 2015
@janiskay I didn't think I would be able to do it either Janice, but in the end I felt it was good therapy to find the photos as requested then I was able to share here. Thanks xx

@janiskay figure I'm building some karma.

Have really enjoyed your b&w series - this old barn was great for b&w conversion - the dark feel it gives from the lighting matches the state of the barn's disrepair so I think it works quite well. Glad sister agreed to the stop!

Great shot of an old fellow with lots of stories to tell. My guess is your caved in roof was due to all the snow they had up there this winter- I think Joan said it was 9 ft. deep at one point from all her shoveling! An old roof and heavy, wet snow = a cave in. But it makes the shot so interesting. Glad you decided to brave the traffic and get the shot!

Super detail which is really brought out by the b&w processing. This can be a dangerous hobby at times!
