We went for a drive up to Mt Rainier today - once we got to Longmire, there was significant snow. It was 30 degrees and snowing when we got to Paradise (about 5000 ft level) - we went into the Visitor Center briefly and when we came out the sun was shining - for about ten minutes, but enough time to get a few shots. I wasn't dressed to walk around - it was windy and really cold. This is the ranger station.
Really pretty. That's the way I like snow...to just be able to go to it! And then leave it behind. Haven't been to Mt. Rainier for years...it isn't that far. So pretty!!!
Oh! I lived in Tacoma for many years and this was the hardest thing to leave behind. Thanks, Jan for sharing "my" mountain today. This is a gorgeous shot of the snow at the top.
That's a lot of snow! I also used to live in Tacoma and visited this spot several times. The last shot I have is of me in shorts and sandals, in front of waist-high snow...in the middle of June!
@pflaume - Thanks Lisa - we love Mt Rainier - the visitor center is at about 5000 ft level and it's over 14K - in the summer we like up into the alpine meadows when the snow melts. It's so beautiful. @bristolrose@swilde@andrina - thank you - yes - not as cold as in Feb - but 30 degrees and windy. Brrrr. @frankhymus - thanks Frank - you can tell the snow is fresh because it's white - and they plow fairly often. @paul2782 - Thanks Paul. @sansjuan@judis - thank you! @timandelke - oh yes - that sounds right, Elke - people are always amazed to see snow up there in June and July. @grammyn - oh I bet you miss it, Katy - we love Mt Rainier and moved out to Eatonville so we could be close and go often. @chard - yes - driving to it is ideal - then you can leave it behind. @denisedaly - oh you were here - August is lovely - did you get up into the alpine meadows? They are buried now under a couple of scores of feet of snow.
